JUST DO IT

It’s more than likely that the things that you want – that guy or girl to go out with you, that dream job, or those marks in school – are all yours for the taking. All you have to do is take the risk, seize the day because after all, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

So why don’t we take the risk? Why settle for mediocrity, when our dreams are just waiting to be lived? The answer is fear. Everything human beings do is either out of their need to avoid pain or out of their desire to gain pleasure. The reason we don’t take action is because we believe that it will be more painful than pleasurable to do so.

Take that dream guy or girl that we have all come across at some point. Chances are you didn’t ask them out, why not? If you are completely honest, the fear of the rejection was greater than the possibility of them saying yes.

The key to being successful lies in your ability to step outside of your comfort zone. You need to be prepared to break out and do something that, at first, may be a little scary, in order to gain a reward.

The thing to remember is that you cannot not participate in life. Whether you are sitting at home watching TV, studying for exams, throwing up from a hang over, walking along a beach or dancing at a nightclub, you are participating in life. Although there isn’t much choice as to whether or not you do participate in life, you do have a choice as to how you participate.

Think of life as if it was a tennis match. The players are really the ones who get all the rewards from the match. They do something they love, make lots of money, get recognized and become famous. The spectators have to pay for the privilege of seeing two players hit a fuzzy ball.

Everyone is participating in life but rather than drifting, the players take action to make the most of their participation and enjoy life.

There are events in your life that you will have to experience. You will almost certainly go to school, work and have relationships with friends, family and partners. So if you have to participate in life, why not make it the best you possibly can? Why not become a player rather than a spectator? Why live your life any less than you can?

You do not have a choice about many things in your life. You cannot choose where you were born, where you grow up, what your parents are like, or many other things that will happen. Yet you can choose how you play the game. When you see an attractive guy or girl walk past, you choose whether you let them go by, or if you step out of your comfort zone and strike up a conversation. When you meet a successful business person, you choose whether you want to ignore them, or try and get to know them and find out their recipe for success. You are surrounded by opportunities every single day. Whether or not you take advantage of them is entirely up to you.
